Red Lake

Canoe Outfitting

With hundreds of accessible lakes surrounding the Red Lake Touring Region, the opportunities for canoeing and kayaking are endless.  Canoe routes are accessible by road, by air, or right from Red Lake itself.  Woodland Caribou Provincial Park, situated just west of the community of Red Lake, is a world famous canoeing destination, with 450,000 hectares of remote, unspoiled wilderness.  There are numerous comfortable outpost cabins and lodges to put up your feet and over 2,000 kilometers of lakes and rivers for paddlers to explore.

Description:
This 450,000 hectare wilderness park, “where nature still rules”, is so remote that canoe trippers and sport fishing enthusiasts can penetrate its interior and reach its backcountry campsites and outpost lodges only by water or by air. Home to one of the largest herds of woodland caribou south of Hudson Bay, this weathered Arctic watershed, once travelled by fur traders, promises ancient pictographs, howling wolves under starry skies, soaring eagles, solitude and adventure.

Combine the comfort of an American-plan lodge with the adventure of a canoe trip. Fly by floatplane to our lodge, Viking Island, on Saturday morning and spend the day fishing on Douglas Lake. Enjoy our three home-cooked meals per day and our several portage lakes, while staying in a beautiful lake front cabin, equipped with indoor toilets and showers. Then on Tuesday morning set out in a canoe for a three day adventure, staying one night in a cabin and one night in a tent. This a great opportunity for avid canoeists to enjoy the pristine wilderness of Woodland Caribou Provincial Park, while still having an opportunity to enjoy our Canadian hospitality, or an excellent way for beginners to get a taste of the canoeing experience.
